Maintenance Work Orders

Complete a work order request online through Housing Online Services (RMS). Work is completed on a first-received, first-served basis, except for emergencies. Maintenance personnel will enter the unit to complete the request, work orders are completed between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM M - F. Residents should notify the Housing & Residential Life staff if a request is not responded to within 72 hours.

Check-In

Check-in occurs at the residence hall that you will be living in. Residents are required to check-in at designated times and dates, or spaces may be reassigned. When students check-in, they will receive keys, a room inventory form, and other pertinent information. Students planning to check-in after the designated check-in period are required to notify The Housing Office of their late arrival.

Laundry

Housing and Residential Life provides various laundry facilities for residents to use. There are laundry rooms in Lakeview North, Everglades Hall, Panther Hall, University Towers, Bay Vista Housing, and in each of the buildings at University Apartments. Each facility is equipped with new, high-efficiency Maytag front-load washers and dryers and folding tables. Laundry costs $1.00 to wash, and $1.00 to dry.

FIU Housing is continuously trying to improve upon and adopt sustainable practices. Such programs in the laundry rooms include outfitting our laundry rooms entirely with ENERGY STAR commercial washers and dryers, keeping our dryer vents clean to reduce drying times and decrease CO2 emissions, placing recycling containers in each room to collect detergent bottles and dryer sheet boxes, and utilizing electronic card systems for laundry payment to reduce vehicle and gas usage required for collection of coins.

All machines are operated with ChangePoint, an integrated payment station which allows students to pay via a Visa credit or debit card. Coin machines will also continue to be in place through the end of the Spring 2013 term. During the 2013 summer Housing expects to remove the coin machines and eliminate coins as a payment method. For more information go to ChangePoint.

Students can check the status of their laundry and also the status of washer/dryer availability by visiting the LaundryView link. LaundryView provides 3D views of the laundry rooms and shows the status of all machines in the rooms. This system allows for students to view activity in the laundry room prior to going downstairs to do their laundry and allows for students to plan their laundry activities.

Green Laundry Tips for Residents

  • Wash in cold water to reduce energy used for heating the water.
  • Use concentrated detergent formulas with reduced packaging and less volume.
  • If you use detergent in a plastic bottle, recycle or reuse the bottle.
  • Only do laundry when you have a full load.
  • Use detergent that is formulated for your washer type for more effective cleaning.
  • Separate towels from light-weight items to reduce dry time.
  • Wash during non-peak hours (before 6:00 am and after 7:00 pm).

Having a problem with a washer or dryer? If so, please report the machine number and problem to your area front desk so that our laundry provider can be contacted to resolve the issue.
