We are the Department of Housing and Residential Life
Our department is composed of the following offices: the Housing Office, the Office of Residential Life, and the Housing Facilities Office. As a strong team, we look forward to providing you with the services, programs, and resources to make your home here at FIU exciting and vibrant. Our team strives to provide residents with an environment that promotes personal growth, academic success, and a sense of community. Our staff transforms our residential areas into caring communities, which we hope to make your home away from home!
The Housing Office
The Housing Office staff provides general housing information, processes housing agreements and room assignments, manages student billing and offers payment assistance. We also provide administrative support for business related functions, such as facilities management, purchasing, and budgeting. Our staff is well trained and ready to assist you with all your housing needs. The Housing Office is located in the University Towers, Room 121.
The Office of Residential Life
The Residential Life staff is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the residence halls. Our team of specially-trained professionals and student staff are responsible for promoting the personal and academic success of students living in the residence halls. Through services, programs, and activities, our staff members develop positive communities conducive to student growth and success. We are available to assist students with any concerns, including personal, academic, and residential policy issues. The Office of Residential Life is located in Panther Hall, room 126.
The Housing Facilities Office
The Housing Facilities staff oversees and performs all aspects of student housing maintenance and custodial services. Our goal is to create and maintain a clean and safe residential environment, supportive of student learning. We encourage all community members to take pride in their on-campus home and become partners with us in achieving our goal. The Housing Facilities Office is located in Lakeview South, Room 140.
Our Residence Hall History
Housing & Residential Life first opened its doors on the Biscayne Bay Campus in 1984. Bay Vista Housing is the only Housing complex on the Biscayne Bay Campus and is home to approximately 300 residents. The University Apartments opened in 1986, and was the first Housing area on the Modesto A. Maidique Campus (MMC). UA is home to approximately 584 residents.
In 1996, we opened our first residence hall in the "Housing Quad". The Housing Quad consists of 5 residence halls that are home to 2100 students. Panther Hall opened its doors in 1996, and houses 400 residents. The University Towers opened in 2000 and houses 500 residents. Everglades Hall opened in 2002 and houses 400 residents. All three of these facilities are state-of- the-art design with private bathrooms in each unit, Internet access, and 24 hour front desks. Lakeview Hall is our newest facility opened in Fall 2006, and houses 825 students.
We will open Parkview in the Fall of 2013, the building is currently under construction on the former parking lot of Panther Hall. More information to come.
